Luxoft has been included in the ranking of the best IT employers in Ukraine for several years in a row. What makes the company attractive to specialists, how does the Center of Excellence department contribute to the development of internal programs at Luxoft, and what resources help with onboarding specialists within the company?
Luxoft Center of Excellence exists to support the Resource Management structure. Our specialists are engaged in the formation of internal policies, rules for projects and initiatives in the company. We select the best projects and initiatives in locations around the world, adapt and launch them in other locations.
In addition to the fact that the Centre of Excellence is engaged in the selection of the best initiatives and their development, we find the "pain points" that the company has in Resource Management and offer ways to overcome them. In particular, we work with policy.
A frequent question is whether a non-technical specialist needs to understand IT in order to get into this field. My opinion is that yes. A specialist should understand the basics, at least in order to be able to interact with projects, the IT sector, and the percentage of specialists who work directly with technology. For example, before changing my field of activity and joining Luxoft, I completed Project Management courses at one of the popular IT schools. Logical and analytical thinking, creativity, sociability, and a desire to change something are the basic set of qualities necessary for working in the IT field.
When changing any field of activity, be prepared for the fact that you will have to study and analyze a lot. I advise you to use a notebook, make important notes and use them.
The practice of setting goals for the probationary period, which are agreed upon between the new employee and the immediate supervisor, adds transparency and clarity to the process for all participants, and prevents burnout. The task of any manager who manages a team is to prevent burnout of specialists. To do this, it is important to maintain a work-life balance.
Not every specialist is able to independently adjust the number of tasks and as a result, people cannot withstand the load, and valuable personnel are released. Therefore, the support and help of a manager is extremely important. My advice is that if you feel burned out, tell yourself “stop” and try to do something that brings pleasure. For everyone, it is something different: sports, meditation, time with family or even just computer games.
The modern world requires us to constantly improve, so I advise you to study tirelessly, improve your skills through various courses, be open and ready for new tasks and projects. Of course, it is great when the company you are involved in tries to support you in every way and provides access to internal educational initiatives, helps specialists adapt, creates the necessary resources for career growth and supports the concept of work-life balance. It is on the example of Luxoft that we described in the material some of the areas that the company takes care of in order to be the most comfortable place to work in the Ukrainian IT sector.
